The District Court at Adentan Fafraha in the Greater Accra Region has ordered award-winning Ghanaian musician Black Sherif, born Mohammed Ismail Sherif, to pay GH¢229,500 in outstanding rent relating to his Accra residence.

The ruling followed an application for substituted service after multiple failed attempts to personally serve the artist with court documents. Consequently, the court directed that all legal processes be served by posting notices on the court’s notice board and at the disputed property, located at House No. 4, Recreational Close, NTHC Estate, Adjiriganor.
The case was initiated by the property owner, Dr. Evelyn Esi Awittor, who alleges that Black Sherif has defaulted on rent payments since August 2024. The statement of claim indicates that the arrears have continued to accrue interest at the prevailing bank rate.
Beyond the payment of the accumulated arrears, the court further ordered the musician to continue paying a monthly rent of $1,700—converted into Ghana cedis—until he vacates the apartment.
The court also ruled that proceedings may continue in Black Sherif’s absence, opening the door to additional legal measures should he fail to comply with the court’s directives.
