NHIA Pays Over GHS 392m in NHIS Claims
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has paid over GH¢392 million in National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) claims to healthcare providers nationwide, reinforcing its commitment to timely reimbursement and improved healthcare delivery in Ghana.
The payments, which cover vetted claims for services rendered to NHIS members, were made between December 2025 and January 2026, according to a statement from the Authority.
Breakdown of NHIA Claims Payments
In December 2025, the NHIA disbursed GH¢301,658,338.13 to health facilities across the country. This was followed by an additional GH¢90,373,513.13 paid in January 2026, bringing the total amount paid during the two-month period to GH¢392,031,851.26.
The Authority explained that the payments covered claims submitted in the previous year and subsequently vetted to ensure accuracy and compliance with NHIS guidelines.
Public and Private Facilities Receive Majority of Funds
A statement issued by the Finance Directorate of the NHIA indicated that public and private health facilities together received approximately 80.55 per cent of the total claims paid, while mission health facilities accounted for the remaining 19.45 per cent.
In nominal terms, public health facilities received GH¢157,164,301.62, with private health facilities paid GH¢158,630,317.29. Mission health facilities received a total of GH¢76,237,232.35.

The NHIA noted that the timely settlement of claims is critical to sustaining healthcare service delivery under the National Health Insurance Scheme. The Authority said the payments reflect its resolve to support healthcare providers in delivering continuous and quality care to NHIS members across Ghana.
