KNUST Confirms Death of Student After Fall From Off-Campus Hostel
Kumasi, Ghana — The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has confirmed the death of one of its students following a tragic incident that occurred over the weekend.
In a statement issued on Sunday, February 9, 2026, the university said the deceased, Mr. Ransford Amankwah Asomani, was a second-year BSc Agribusiness Management student. According to preliminary reports, Mr. Asomani fell from the second floor of an off-campus hostel in Ayeduase during the early hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026.
The statement indicated that he was immediately rushed to the KNUST Hospital by his colleagues, with assistance from the KNUST District Police Patrol Team. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
University authorities have confirmed that the student’s parents have been formally informed, and the body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
Management of the university expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire university community.
Meanwhile, the KNUST Police, in collaboration with the university’s security services, have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The university assured the public that further updates will be provided once investigations are concluded.
