IGP Promotes 17 Officers After Major Drug and Arms Seizures
Accra, 27 January 2026 — Inspector‑General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has promoted seventeen police officers in recognition of their “outstanding professionalism and dedication” following separate operations that yielded significant narcotics and weapons seizures.

The promotions, announced on 27 January, reward officers who played key roles in intercepting ten wrapped slabs of a substance suspected to be cocaine — with an estimated street value of GHC 1,032,650 — and several sacks of substances suspected to be narcotics in the Volta Region. In a separate routine patrol operation in Jacobu, officers recovered an AK‑47 rifle, a pump‑action gun and eight live rounds of ammunition.

IGP Yohuno, joined by members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), congratulated the promoted officers and commended them for upholding the Ghana Police Service’s core values of discipline, courage and professionalism.

He urged the newly promoted officers to regard their elevation as a call to greater responsibility and encouraged all personnel to continue working diligently, reiterating that excellence and integrity remain the basis for recognition and promotion within the Service.

The Ghana Police Service said the promotions are intended to both reward exemplary conduct and motivate continued operational effectiveness in combating illegal drugs and weapons trafficking.
