Suhum kidnapping sting, Police arrest five suspects, rescue two men

Suhum, Eastern Region —An intelligence-led operation on Saturday, 10 January 2026, police arrested five suspected kidnappers and rescued two men who had been abducted while travelling from Accra to Anyinam.

The Nsawam District Police Command said it received information at about 3:20 p.m. that two men had been taken to an unknown location and that the kidnappers were demanding GH¢400,000 for their release. After negotiations, the suspects instructed the victims’ family to pay an initial GH¢5,000 deposit, a move that enabled police to mount a planned response.

Officers, with support from the Suhum Police, lured the suspects to a drinking spot near the Suhum Roundabout, where a joint operation led to the arrest of five men identified as Suleman Salifu (24), Godfred Owusu (26), Antwi Bismark (27), Anas Salis (38) and Gyamfi Isaac (33). The two victims, Seidu Sambiane (28) and Ibrahim Alhassan (42), were found and rescued unharmed.

A search of an unregistered Acura 4×4 used by the suspects yielded suspected forged currency notes in GH¢100 and GH¢200 denominations, specimen paper cut to the size of notes, GH¢4,600 in cash, a foreign pistol, a cutlass, talismans and amulets, and five mobile phones.

The suspects remain in police custody and are assisting investigators as enquiries continue to determine the full extent of the alleged criminal network. Authorities have not disclosed whether any charges have yet been filed. Police urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
