Ghana Armed Forces Honours Fallen Heroes with Posthumous Promotions

In a poignant ceremony held at the Air Force Headquarters in Accra on August 19, 2025, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, conferred posthumous promotions on three military personnel who tragically lost their lives in the Adansi helicopter crash. The ceremony was a solemn tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, who were promoted to Wing Commander, Flight Lieutenant, and Flight Sergeant, respectively.

A Symbol of National Appreciation

The posthumous promotions serve as a testament to the nation’s enduring appreciation for the service and sacrifice of its fallen heroes. Lieutenant General Agyapong emphasized that the promotions symbolize the highest recognition of sacrifice, honour, and duty to the nation. The ceremony was attended by senior military officials, including Air Commodore Mathias Awuah and Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frimpong, who praised the decision to honour the fallen heroes.

Comprehensive Welfare Package

The CDS revealed that a comprehensive welfare package has been prepared for the families of the eight officers and men who perished in the crash. This package will be presented alongside other statutory entitlements, providing much-needed support to the bereaved families. Additionally, the CDS proposed the creation of a Child Care Fund to support the dependents of officers who lose their lives in active service.

Solidarity and Support

The families of the fallen heroes were presented with GH¢315,000, a contribution from institutions, organisations, and individuals who rallied in solidarity with the bereaved. Reverend MacDouglas Ampadu, speaking on behalf of the three families, expressed profound gratitude to the CDS, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the wider Ghanaian society for their unwavering support during this painful period.
