Ewurabena Aubynn, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, has been declared the winner of the Ablekuma North constituency parliamentary election. Aubynn secured 34,090 votes, narrowly defeating her closest contender, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 33,881 votes.
A Shift in Power
This win marks a significant shift in the constituency’s political landscape, ending the NPP’s 28-year dominance. The NDC’s victory is a testament to Aubynn’s strong campaign and the constituents’ desire for change. The rerun election, held on July 11, 2025, was necessitated by disputes and irregularities during the December 7, 2024, general elections.
Incidents and Controversies
The rerun election was marred by incidents of violence, including the assault of former Member of Parliament Mavis Hawa Koomson and journalist Agyekum Banahene. The Ghana Police Service has interdicted the officer involved in the assault pending investigations.
Aubynn’s Victory Speech
In her victory speech, Aubynn expressed gratitude to constituents for giving her the mandate.
