EC to Rerun 19 Polling Stations Ablekuma North Constituency Parliamentary Elections

Abuja, Ghana – July 16, 2025 – The Electoral Commission of Ghana has confirmed that elections will be rerun in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency, following a series of discussions with representatives from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). This decision comes after a contentious parliamentary election marred by disputes over the validity of results from certain polling stations.

The announcement was made during a meeting held on Tuesday, July 15, where both major political parties reiterated their positions regarding the election results from the December 7, 2025 General Election. The NDC has called for a rerun due to concerns over the integrity of scanned Pink Sheets provided by the NPP, which they argue were used to collate results without proper verification. Conversely, the NPP has maintained that results from three outstanding polling stations should be collated to declare a winner, citing confirmation from NDC agents on the scanned results.

The controversy stems from the destruction of several Pink Sheets during the results collation process, when supporters from both parties clashed at the Collation Centre. As a result, the Electoral Commission faced significant pressure to ensure a fair resolution to the electoral impasse.

In a detailed statement, the Commission clarified that the rerun will take place on Friday, July 11, 2025, in 19 polling stations where the scanned results were not verified by the Presiding Officers. The Commission noted that they managed to secure verification for 18 other polling stations, where both parties had approved the results, thus no rerun will be conducted there.

The Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, emphasized the importance of a secure environment for the upcoming election, calling on the Ghana Police Service to ensure adequate security measures are in place.

As the rerun approaches, stakeholders and constituents in Ablekuma North are keenly observing the developments, with hopes that the upcoming election will restore confidence in the electoral process and provide a clear resolution to the ongoing disputes.

The Electoral Commission’s commitment to transparency and fairness remains paramount as they navigate this complex electoral landscape, ensuring that the voices of the constituents are heard and respected.
