In a bold move, Member of Parliament for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, is calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to halt the transitional process until all outstanding parliamentary seats are declared.
This comes amids of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) attempting to steal seats to gain a two-thirds majority in parliament.
Addressing a Press conference, the Majority Chief Whip, Annoh-Dompreh’s plea is not unfounded, given the NDC’s history of violence and intimidation against Electoral Commission (EC) officials.
The NDC supporters have been implicated in attacks on EC officials, forcing them to declare results in their favor.
The MP’s own constituency, Nsawam/Adoagyiri, has been targeted by the NDC, but Annoh-Dompreh remains confident that he will emerge victorious.
“We must ensure that all outstanding seats are declared duly by the EC before the transition process goes on,” Annoh-Dompreh emphasized.
“The preoccupation and negative mindset of the NDC is to steal seats in addition to those they’ve won, so that eventually they can get the two-thirds and parliament becomes a rubber stamp.”
Annoh-Dompreh’s concerns are shared by many in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who have witnessed the NDC’s tactics firsthand.
The NPP has already won several seats in the Eastern Region, including Akuapem North_Okere_, New Juaben North, New Juaben South, Ayensuano, Kade, Akyem Swedru, Akyem Oda, Achiase, Asene Manso Akroso, Ofoase/Ayirebi, Abetifi, Mpraeso, Nkawkaw, Abirem, Abuakwa South, Abuakwa North, Fanteakwa South, Atiwa East, and Atiwa West.
The NPP is urging the EC to expedite the announcement of results in the outstanding constituencies, including Suhum, Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Akwatia, and, Fanteakwa North.
The party is also calling on the Ghana Police Service and other relevant security agencies to ensure peace and order in the affected constituencies.
