Bawumia Leads With 49.1% Against Mahama’s 45.8% In Latest Polls

Professor Smart Sarpong, Director of Research and Innovation at the Kumasi Technical University (KTU), has released the results of his latest poll, predicting a strong lead for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the December 2024 general elections. The poll, which surveyed 99,355 individuals across 4,272 communities in all 276 constituencies, shows Bawumia leading with 49.1% of voter support, while former President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) trails with 45.8%.

The poll results show Bawumia’s significant advantage in key regions, including Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono, Central, Eastern, North East, and Western Regions. In contrast, Mahama’s support remains considerable in the 9 other regions, but not enough to overtake Bawumia’s commanding lead. Other candidates, including Nana Kwame Bediako with 2.2% and John Allan Kyeremateng with 1.2%, together with the remaining candidates, account for a combined total of 5.1% of the vote.

Professor Sarpong’s poll not only predicts a strong presidential outcome for Bawumia but also forecasts a significant parliamentary victory for the NPP. According to the results, the NPP is on track to secure at least 148 seats in Parliament, with 128 seats already considered “safe” for the party. The NDC holds 92 safe seats, with 56 constituencies still highly competitive. The renown Professor’s insights suggest that these 56 seats are likely to be shared equally between the NPP and the NDC, ensuring the NPP’s majority by the end of the election.

Sarpong, who accurately predicted the NPP’s first-round victory and the widespread “skirt-and-blouse” voting pattern in the 2020 elections, has gained recognition for his sharp electoral forecasts. His latest predictions indicate that the NPP’s prospects in the upcoming elections are strong, both in the presidential race and in securing a dominant position in Parliament.

With only four weeks left until election day, the political landscape appears to favour the NPP, according to this comprehensive poll, suggesting that Bawumia’s leadership and the NPP’s political strategies are resonating well with voters across the country.
