PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO UNVEILS STATE-OF-THE-ART JAMESTOWN FISHING HARBOUR

Accra, Sept. 12, 2024 – President Nana Akufo-Addo has commissioned an ultra-modern fishing harbour at Jamestown, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s quest to boost the fishing industry and reduce reliance on imported fish.

BOOSTING FISH PRODUCTION AND JOBS

The newly constructed harbour features a cold storage unit, fish processing centre, fire and police station, and crèche, expected to generate 4,000 direct and indirect jobs for Ga youth.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized the harbour’s potential to enhance fish catches, minimize post-harvest losses, and empower the local economy.

“This project will revitalise the lives of Jamestown’s fisherfolk and traders, injecting new energies into the community. Its benefits will ripple across the nation,” he stated.

GA MANTSE APPEALS FOR LOCAL YOUTH EMPLOYMENT

Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, urged the government to allocate a quota for Ga youth in the harbour’s operation.

“As the voice of Ga Dangbe Youth, I appeal to the Ministry of Transportation to ensure our young people benefit from this commercial venture. They deserve a seat at the table to thrive,” he stated.

The Jamestown Fishing Harbour commissioning is a testament to the government’s commitment to developing Ghana’s fishing industry and creating opportunities for local communities.
