NPP National Organizer Calls for Withdrawal of Emission Levy and VAT on Electricity
Accra, Ghana – In a bid to alleviate the burden on Ghanaians, the national organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has called on the government to immediately withdraw both the Emission levy and Value Added Tax (VAT) on electricity. Boakye emphasized that the current economic situation in Ghana is already too harsh for its citizens, and imposing such taxes would only worsen their livelihood conditions.
Speaking on the Peace FM Kokrokoo morning show, an Accra based radio station, Nana Boakye explained that the withdrawal of these taxes is the official position of the NPP. He noted that Ghana is not yet ready to adopt electric vehicles, as the state has not made any provisions for the necessary infrastructure to recharge or power such vehicles. Therefore, imposing taxes on electricity, which is already a basic necessity for Ghanaians, would only add to their financial burden.
The NPP national organizer’s call for the withdrawal of these taxes comes at a time when Ghanaians are grappling with the effects of the global economic downturn and the COVID-19 pandemic. Many citizens are already struggling to make ends meet, and the imposition of additional taxes on electricity would further exacerbate their hardships.
Nana Boakye’s plea to the government reflects the party’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the Ghanaian people. The NPP believes that withdrawing the Emission levy and VAT on electricity would provide much-needed relief to Ghanaians and allow them to better cope with the current economic challenges.
As the government considers this proposal, Ghanaians eagerly await its response. The NPP hopes that their call for the withdrawal of these taxes will be taken seriously and that the government will take swift action to ease the burden on its citizens. In the meantime, Nana Boakye and the NPP will continue to advocate for policies that prioritize the well-being and livelihoods of Ghanaians.
