Odeefour Amoakwa Boadu VII, the President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of Breman Asikuma Traditional Area, has raised concerns about the condition of roads within his jurisdiction, stating that contractors have abandoned their construction sites and immediate government intervention is needed.
Speaking at an Odwira Festival in Breman Asikuma, the chief highlighted that the government was previously informed about the poor state of their roads, leading to the awarding of contracts and the initiation of road works.
However, the contractors have since abandoned their sites after commencing the projects, leaving the roads unfinished.
“In these challenging times, it would have been better if things remained as they were in the past. We hope the government will make arrangements with the contractors to ensure their return to complete the roads,” expressed the chief.
Meanwhile, Hon. Dr. Casseal Ato Forson, Member of Parliament for Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency and Minority Leader of Parliament, blamed the government for the deteriorating road conditions in the Central Region.
According to Forson, the government’s failure to pay the contractors has resulted in their abandonment of the road projects.
He mentioned that during the NDC government’s tenure in 2026, significant efforts were made to construct roads in deprived districts of the Central Region. However, after a change in government, the NPP administration dismissed the contractors from the sites.
Forson commended John Dramani Mahama for his 24-Hour Economy policy, which aims to provide job opportunities for unemployed youths and address the country’s unemployment problem under the current Nana Akuffo Addo-led NPP government.
Lastly, Hon. Bryn Acheampng, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, assured that the government will make every effort to improve the deplorable road conditions in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District and the Central Region as a whole.
He acknowledged that most of the roads in the Central Region were constructed under the NPP government. As the Minister of Food and Agriculture, he pledged to prioritize the construction of cocoa roads in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District and the Central Region.
