St. Matthew Catholic Hospital has commissioned its maiden general ward with a 40-bed capacity to enhance healthcare delivery within its catchment area.
The newly commissioned ward marks a significant milestone in the hospital\u2019s efforts to provide quality and accessible healthcare services to the people of Ampenkro and surrounding communities.
The commissioning ceremony coincided with the 34th World Day of the Sick celebration. Speaking at the event, the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, delivered a message from Pope Leo XIV. He advised healthcare providers to avoid a culture of speed, immediacy, discard, and indifference that prevents them from recognizing the needs and suffering of patients.
He urged health workers to draw closer to the sick and attend to their specific needs, just as the Good Samaritan did in the Holy Bible.
The programme was held under the theme: \u201cThe Compassion of the Samaritan: Loving by Bearing Another\u2019s Pain.\u201d
Bishop Gyamfi emphasized that the Catholic Church establishes health facilities not only to bring healthcare closer to the people but also to demonstrate the mercy of God. He encouraged health workers to collaborate effectively to ensure patients receive quality care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In an interview, the Acting Medical Director, Dr. (Med.) Emmanuel Adjei Amoah, expressed management\u2019s commitment to developing both the hospital\u2019s human resource capacity and infrastructure to improve service delivery.
He appealed to well-meaning Ghanaians, particularly natives of the Bono Region, to support the facility. He further called on health professionals from the area who have relocated to urban centres to return home and contribute their expertise toward improving healthcare services in their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a related development, the Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, Rachel Ama Owusuah, expressed satisfaction with the quality healthcare delivery provided by the Catholic Church, stating that the Church is second to none in terms of delivering quality health services.
She also noted that she is particularly pleased with the holistic training offered by Catholic health training institutions, which she said distinguishes their graduates as exceptional health practitioners in the field.
Additionally, Hon. Ama Owusuah urged health workers to be time-conscious and dedicated to their duties, emphasizing the need to uphold the dignity of patients at all times. She further commended the staff of the facility for effectively and efficiently discharging their responsibilities in a professional manner.
