Former MP Ebenezer Nartey Seeks Comeback in NPP Primaries, Backed by Grateful Delegates of Ablekuma Central Constituency

Volunteer Group Raises GHC 3,000 for Nomination Form, Believes Nartey Can Lead NPP to Victory

Ebenezer Nartey, former Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma Central Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, is set to make a comeback in the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). A volunteer group, known as the ‘Grateful Youth of Ablekuma Central’, consisting mainly of Polling Station and constituency executives, has shown their support by raising GHC 3,000 to cover the cost of the nomination form.

Nartey, who previously served in the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic, lost the 2020 elections to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). However, the ‘Grateful Youth of Ablekuma Central’ believes that Nartey has consistently supported the youth and provided resources to the party, both during and after the elections.

Convener of the group, Daniel Appiah-Oppong, expressed confidence in Nartey’s ability to extend his benevolence to other young people if elected to represent the party and constituency again. Additionally, Nartey is seen as a unifying candidate who can rally all segments of the constituency and lead the NPP to victory, as he did in the 2016 Elections, where he garnered over 46,000 votes more than President Akufo Addo.

Appiah-Oppong emphasized the importance of an experienced candidate in the upcoming 2024 Parliamentary Elections, stating that the priority is to reclaim their lost seat. Despite Nartey’s narrow loss in 2020, his contributions to the party’s infrastructure and human development have not gone unnoticed. The ‘Grateful Youth of Ablekuma Central’ firmly believes that Nartey is the right person for the job and will deliver on their expectations.

With a mixture of surprise and joy, Nartey received the nomination forms from Mr. Alex Boakye, a polling station executive, and Daniel Oppong, the group’s convener. Nartey expressed his gratitude to the constituency for their support and promised not to let them down. He acknowledged the unexpected nature of the nomination forms, as he had planned to pick them up at a later date. However, the overwhelming response from the people of Ablekuma Central motivated him to accept the forms and pledge to work tirelessly for their benefit.

“I have just graduated and was planning to spend time with my course mates, but coming home to this historic moment is truly surprising. I intended to pick up the forms next week Monday, but I have been informed that the constituents gathered funds to pay for them. I am shocked and grateful. I want to assure the people of Ablekuma Central that I will not fail them. Development is my priority, and with your support, we will win the primaries and the general elections to create more job opportunities,” Nartey exclaimed with a smile on his face.

The race for the Ablekuma Central constituency seat is set to be an exciting one, as Nartey aims to regain his position and continue his impactful work for the people. The upcoming NPP parliamentary primaries will determine if Nartey will have the opportunity to represent the party in the general elections and potentially secure a victory for the constituency.
